DynamicPDF PrintManager for .NET (v1) Forum

Hello,
As far as I can see, PrintManager generates print jobs as bitmaps, which are of enormous size: a 147 KB file (4 pages of text, no graphics) inflates to a 13,7 MB spool file.
Is there a way to reduce print job size? Maybe by printing in vector instead of bitmap? We print large batch jobs over slow lines, so keeping jobs small is essential.
I already tried printJob.PrintOptions.SetResolutionByDpi() method, but it seems to be ignored.
We use HP CM8060 PCL5 and HP Universal PCL5 drivers. By the way, when printing from Adobe Reader 9.0 (from my own desktop) the spool file never goes over 200 KB.

Hello,

Currently there is no way to reduce the file size. The increase in the file size you are noticing in the print spooler is due to the underlying rendering mechanism used by the PrintManager. Our developers are constantly looking for ways to improve the product and this is one area that they have identified as requiring further improvement. At this time we don’t have a timeline on when this will be improved but there is good chance that one of the future versions of the PrintManager will have better memory usage.

Thanks,

Hi team,

I know this post is a couple of years old now - but I am having the same issue here of the printing size blowing out right as it prints. Has there been any update or solution to this? Once the file is saved it reverts back to a decent size, it is literally just getting it directly to the printer.

Hello,

Reducing the print size requires modifications to the product’s core rendering engine. Complexities involved in making this kind of changes are huge and may significantly affect other part of the product. At this point we do not yet know when an update will be available for this. In future if an update becomes available we will definitely update this thread.

Thanks,
