DynamicPDF Converter for .NET (v1) Forum

I've installed the evaluation version of DynamicPDF Converter for .NET and I'm having a problem where the web page hangs when it tries to convert.  The web page works fine if I don't set this.ConvertToPdf = true.  When I set it to true, the conversion appears to hang.  The page is a very simple one line test page.

This is on Windows Server 2008 64 bit, running within IIS with SharePoint Server 2007 installed.

It appears that the conversion service is installed.  I see the DynamicPDF Converter in Services and in Printers.  I also see "ceTe.DynamicPDF.Converter.Service.exe *32" in the Task Manager.  One odd thing is that I see another "ceTe.DynamicPDF.Converter.Service.exe *32" in Task Manager when I run the test page conversion (although that may be expected behavior).
 Jan 25 2010 4:12 PM
Update: The DPDFConverter sample project works for converting rtf to pdf, but does not work if given a URL (including the "http://www.google.com" that is in the sample.  I also cannot use the ConvertHtmlString method such as:

Converter.ConvertHtmlString("<html><head><title>This is a test</title></head><body>This is a test</body></html>", "Output.pdf");

Each attempt with http or html string results in it hanging, with a blank command prompt window being displayed.

You mentioned that you are running Windows 2008 64 bit but the Task Manager shows 32.  Could you have downloaded the incorrect version?  Will you double check that?

Thanks,

I had been wondering that as well, so when you mentioned that, I uninstalled and reinstalled using the 64-bit version from http://www.DynamicPDF.com/Products/DynamicPDFConverterforNET/Download.csp.  It still hangs when trying to convert HTML and the Task Manager still shows "*32" for the service executable that is running.
 Jan 26 2010 8:18 PM
I've still not found a solution to this.  Is the install location mentioned in my last post the correct location?  Is the "*32" expected for the service executable on Windows 2008 64-bit?

Thanks,
Val

Hello Val,

The *32 you are seeing with the service name is of no problem. Are you using the windows 2008 R2 or R1 release?

Thanks,
ceTe Software Support Team.

I'm using Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise edition.

Hello Val,

Currently HTML to PDF conversions does not work on windows 2008 R2 and windows 7. There is a problem with the Windows NT 6.x and these two operating systems are NT 6.x based. We have discussed with Microsoft support and we are expecting a solution by mid of March from them. You can use other conversions without any problem.

Thanks,
ceTe Software Support Team.

Okay thanks.  In the mean time, let me know if a workaround is found.

Hello,

We are working actively with Microsoft to get this resolved. The problem is partially in the Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7 and we have this as our top priority to get it resolved.

We are making progress with resolving this but this is not yet 100% resolved. We will post a reply once this is fully resolved.

Thanks for the patience.

I am confused with the HTMLConverter. On my local machine, I am able to convert HTML to PDF using the DynamicPDF Converter. But when i deploy to a server the conversion just hangs.

Both my local and server machine are 32 bit and run Windows Server 2003 R2.

Thanks

Hello,

Can you please ensure that DynamicPDF Converter printer is installed in the "Printer and Faxes" on the server and DynamicPDF Converter service is also running in Administrative Tools --> Services?

Also please make sure that you are using the latest version from the website to eliminate any issues that have been address in the latest build.

Thanks,

I also have this problem. After downloading and installing, I tested a ConvertHtmlString(...) and received the following response:

Hi, has the issue with Windows Server 2008 R2 been resolved ?

I'm running DynamicPDF Converter x64 build 16947 (Evaluation) and the conversion seems to be hanging.  Here's my environment:

- Windows Server 2008 R2 x64, Standard
- Visual Studio 2010 SP1, Ultimate
- IE 9

I ran the C# example "DynamicPDF_Convertor_CSharp.csproj" and the process hangs at this line:

Converter.Convert("http://www.google.com", "Output.pdf");

I also tried the Asynchronous converter but nothing happens.

Here is the content of the log file:

Hello,

HTML Conversion depends on the version of Internet Explorer installed on the server. This issue has been resolved and HTML conversion on Win Server 2008 R2 works with IE 8. You are using IE 9 on your server and currently IE 9 is not supported by the Converter. The support for IE 9 is being considered for implementation and a new build will be released as soon as the support for IE 9 is implemented.

Thanks,
ceTe Software Support Team

Hi,

I seem to be getting the same kind of error intermittently when calling converter.convert.

I restart iis, stop start service, after a few times, it starts working again, and then i get a "print driver host for 32bit applications has stopped working" error again, and then have to go through all the process again.

I found another post previous to this, about changing the config file "conversionsPerProcess" to 1, instead of the default value. This didn't make any difference.

I have Windows 7 ultimate 64bit
IE10.

Is it possible this same issue has reasserted itself under IE10, or was this never resolved on Windows 7, but is resolved on Windows Server 2008 R2?

Thanks,

Tony

Hi Support,

Do you have solution to this issue yet as we are experiencing the same issue.

Hello,

This may happen if you have IE 10 installed on the machine where the Converter is installed. Currently the DynamicPDF Converter for .NET product does not support converting HTML to PDF having IE 10 installed in the system.  We will add support for IE10 in our future version of DynamicPDF for .NET but we do not have any exact time line on this.

Please try HTML to PDF conversions on a system where in IE9 installed and this should work for you.

Thanks,
ceTe Software Support Team.

I have IE 8 installed on the server. I do have to restart dynamic PDF windows service more than 10 times a day. The converter application hangs for no reason and has to be restarted severally to pick the next document.

Hello,

Please review the recommended system requirements and limitations for Converter available here. For Win 2012, currently the html/aspx conversions are no supported. For other operating systems, depending on the OS where the Converter msi is installed, a specific version of Internet Explorer is required for html/aspx conversion. Please make sure that you have the appropriate IE version installed.

Thanks,
ceTe Software Support Team.

Is there any timeline when the PDF converter would work on a 2012 server running IE11.  I would really like to use this product but we are in the process of converting are servers to 2012.

Hello,

Currently our developers are working on supporting HTML conversions on Server 2012 using IE11. As of now we do not have an exact time on when this will be included in the Converter API, but we will post on the forum as soon as this feature is available.
