DynamicPDF Generator for .NET (v4) Forum

 Jul 26 2007 4:18 AM
Hi,

I am able to create acroForms with Dynamic generator, however when I open the form in Adobe there is a message that reads:
"You can not save data typed into this form.
please print your completed form...."

I would like the user to be able to save the form with his data.
I assume there is some property that I am not setting correct can you please point me in the right direction.

Hello,

It is not possible to save the data typed in the form fields using the Acrobat Reader and this is the behavior of the Acrobat Reader. In order to save the changes of the form fields you will have to use the Acrobat Professional or Standard Edition.

Using our product you can fill the form fields and you can save it on to the hard disk programmatically without any problem.

Thanks,

Is there a posting method or something I can use to get the data data entered in the fields by my end users. I do not want to install anything on the end users machines.

Hello,

After opening the PDF in the Acrobat Reader our product will not have control over the PDF document. Saving the changed data is a feature avaiable in the Acrobat Professional and it is not possible using the Reader.

However you can do this by adding a submit button to the PDF document using which user can submit the PDF after changing the data. You can be able to read the data entered by the user and recreate the PDF with the data entered by the user. Then you can save this PDF in the computer or open it in the web so that user can save it.

Arobat Reader 8 is able to save form data on disk ! You need to prepare the form in Acrobat Professional menu: Advanced > Enable Usage Rights in Adobe Reader

Is it possible to make similar setting in PDF form using DynamicPDF Generator and DynamicPDF Merger ?

Thanks

Hello Zdenek,

Setting the enable user rights option (Acrobat Professional menu: Advanced > Enable Usage Rights in Adobe Reader) is an Adobe's proprietary feature and it is not possible to set it using our Generator product.

However you can achieve a similar behavior using our SubmitAction. You will have to add a button to the PDF document using which user will submit the filled form to an URL. Then you can get the submitted data and create the PDF with the data. You can open the PDF in the browser or you can save it.
